oven gloves

So, continuing the story:

We went to the "shopping centre" which was very very much like our local malls except with different stores. Z had said she wanted to look at clothes, but once we got there, she wasn't in the mood. We looked for shoes/boots for me, didn't find any, of course. I did, however, find a Daniel O'Donnell calendar to bring back for CH - perfect! Half-price even.

Back at the house, we had a lovely dinner - casseolet (spelling? some Frenchie bean casserole with goose - very very good) and sticky toffee pudding! Oh, and baked eggs atop a parsnip puree with mushrooms, except we had them made to order, so I got my baked egg without the egg. Yum yum!

That was Wednesday. On Thursday, hmmm, let me see if I can remember. *thinks* Ohhh, yes, we took the train to London and went to Borough Market. We walked quite a distance to a tradional pie and mash shop. We all had miince (beef) pies with mash and liquor. Mash = mashed potatoes and liquor = gravy, a sort of white gravy with herbs in it, secret recipe, doncha know. Manzes Pie Shop. T had the eels instead of pie, with mash. Picture posted here. Then we walked back over to the Market and met up with LK (the other LK, not me) and greatly enjoyed strolling around looking at all the very interesting foods and drinks there. One place had a pile of large dead rabbits, still in skin. Another, The Ginger Pig, offered courses in pig-butchering.

M left to take T back home so he could babysit for the evening, and M could get the car to come back into the city. The rest of us went to the British Museum to see the Rosetta Stone, Elgin marbles, and items from the Sutton Hoo burial. I annoyed Z by saying "Sutton Hoo" too many times. W thought it sounded like a Chinese emperor. I remember reading about the discover of the Sutton Hoo burial ship in National Geographic and had always wanted to see it. Of course I wanted to see the Rosetta Stone as well. Everyone has always commented on how much smaller it is than one expects, so I guess I expected it to be small and thought it was larger than I expected. The museum was quite interesting and I'd like to go back and see the things we didn't have time for.

After a bit, LK had to leave to meet her friend for dinner. J, Z, W and I found our way to the neighborhood where the concert would be (Islington) and decided on Indian food for our dinner. M called and managed to find us and joined us for a drink at the restaurant before we left for the concert. The venue was just down the street from the Indian restaurant so there was no rush.

More to come.

Sounds like J really is a wonderful cook.

Hope you get to go back to the British Museum someday. It really has a fascinating collection and is one of my very favourite museums.

Looking forward to part 3.
